Random thoughts whilst concious....

Why when Gaelic is the lands first language, and the road signs are all written as Gaeilge first, and Gaelic is compulsary in primary school, is the language dying?

Why is it that even though an Irish person will tell you no one goes out at night in November, or January they are actually telling you this whilst in a pub, drinking, and planning their next move? and on that note Why will girls dress in the skimpiest little outfits, with the most uncomfortable shoes, in the most freezing temperatures when supposedly no one is out to see them anyway?

And finally why have we shown up almost every Tuesday night at the Porterhouse to have our pub quiz when there has not been a pub quiz for almost two months??? The last two excuses have been the microphone is not working, hmm.....

Just a few random thoughts of mine, we all have them, don't we?

So for a month that no one is supposed to go out in I sure have had my fair share of outtage! Since the beginning of 2007 I have officially been in three nights this month. I know what your thinking, it's only early, but no it's not it's the middle of January people, and before you know it February will be upon us and you all know what that means........ (yeah OK neither do I)

Something else I've noticed has very much not been lacking in 2007 is Men. Men seem to be everywhere at the moment, everywhere I go there seems to be an abundance of Irish boys. Go out on a Friday night, boys come from everywhere, I go home from work, the only people in the hostel seem to be men, off you trot to Pub Quiz night where it used to be a girls only club and low and behold boys seem to be taking over. Now I'm not complaining, I am taking all this new boys are starting to notice me all in my stride....... Yeah right!

The biggest thing in my life right now is Australia Day that's right Folks I officially get two Australia Days this year. 1. the Australia Day which will be celebrated during your time to listen to JJJ hottest 100 countdown which in Irish time will be Thursday from 10pm - Friday at 6am wayhey all nighter! Then off to work on Friday only to rush back to Gail and Kelly's house because 2. we are hosting an Australia Day party for all our Irish friends! We have an Aussie guy to cook the BBQ, outdoors in the freezing cold. When in London we stocked up in the Australia store on fantales, twisties, burger rings, allens lollies, etc. I'm baking lamingotns, Kate is cooking Pavlova, and we have all sorts of mascots for the night!

So all is grand, life is great, lets just hope that I keep my head on strait with all these boys around!!

Countdown to Galway 20 days!!!!

Once Upon a Time.........

My fantastic christmas adventure foiled by sunshine and fake snow, but with such a fantastic group of people and some jeigermeister bombs, and a few bruises.

A young girl from Australia dreamed of white christmas, she knew she would probably never see, but as luck would have it one year she found herself in the cold of December and decided this would be her year.

After 18 hours of driving through England and France the young girl finally found herself surounded by snow, and sunshine, a beautiful view which took her breath away, this would be the best week ever she decided.

On her first day of snowboarding the girls in her room took her out for a lesson in the powder. Realising immediately snowboarding was not as easy as it looked she found herself sliding down the mountain much earlier then anticipated and discovering fast and hard the only way to stop would be to fall, in the hard cold snow right on her bum, this she would do more often, and with little elegence for the rest of the week.

She had booked into a week of lessons with some snowboard instructors, they taught her how to stop, turn, and slow, unfortunately she discovered she had a goofy foot (left foot forwards instead of right) and had to put everything she'd learn't into practice backwards. The very cute french snowboard instructors were very understanding and VERY helpful, even if they only understood a little english.

By the fourth day the young Australian had discovered a thing called balance, and was zooming down the slopes like a pro........ untill she hit some rocks and fell once again, this time knocking her head, and falling badly on her shoulder, she decided the better place to be for the night was the pub.

By the fifth day the little girl had mastered the art of getting off the ski lift. On the sixth and last day of her snowboarding adventures she realised the art of snowboarding is not balance, it's not talent it's not changing body weight, no the art of snowboarding is having a couple of confidence boosters at the pub before hitting the slopes! A lesson that would have been helpful earlier in the week.

All this snowboarding aside the little girl still had her white christmas. She also discovered the kindness of europeans is VERY different to the kindness of Australian, NZ & South Africans. She liked European males very much, and befriended some bartenders who took her out night clubing all the time, with many hundreds of thousands of laughs, good times, and sometimes just a few to many. (Who tries to drink with Belgiums honestly, they are world famous for their beer, someone should have pre warned the little girl, lesson learnt the hard way)

By the end of her trip the little girl went home, white christmased out, bruised, ill, and a little wiser on the ways of the world.

Hope you all had a wonderful christmas, a safe new year and that the ways of the world are a little wiser in all your eyes in 2007.
